During his time at WVSOM, Nemitz has overseen the accreditation and institutional effectiveness processes, research and grants, community outreach and government relations at the local, state and national levels. He has also served as WVSOM’ s associate dean for preclinical education, director of the Office of Rural Recruitment and Retention and an anatomy professor and provided service to the national osteopathic profession and West Virginia higher education.
Nemitz succeeds Michael Adelman, DO, DPM, JD, who served as WVSOM’ s president for the last eight years.
Pickering Associates Celebrates 30th Anniversary in 2018
The department heads and upper management of Pickering Associates celebrate the company’ s 30th anniversary.
Pickering Associates, the Mid-Ohio Valley’ s premier architecture, engineering and surveying firm, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
In 2018 alone, the company has reached several milestones. Recently, Ryan Taylor was promoted to president and CEO, replacing Charles Pickering, the company’ s founder. Pickering is taking a step back from the daily operations and management of the company to focus on special projects as well as Pickering Energy Solutions, a West Virginia organization established to launch and encourage renewable energy generation. The company also opened its fifth West Virginia location in Fairmont this year. The new office is managed by Pamela Wean, AIA.
“ We are excited to grow and develop in the Fairmont community, and the fact that it is happening in our 30th year just makes it all the more exciting,” says Taylor.
Pickering Associates has welcomed many new faces to the team this year, including Robert Crocker as a new senior controls specialist and Harold Kidd as a control system engineer. With more than 90 design staff members on board, the company looks forward to continued growth in 2018.
NARO Appalachia’ s Annual Conference Set for September in Wheeling
The National Association of Royalty Owners’( NARO) Appalachia chapter will be hosting its eighth annual conference atop the stacked Marcellus and Utica plays in what is currently the hottest part of the Appalachian Basin.
Planned for September 16-18 at Oglebay Resort & Conference Center in Wheeling, the agenda includes state-specific geologic updates, legislative topics and a discussion on the future of natural gas. West Virginia University will be on hand to discuss the crucial natural gas and ethane storage network and will provide an update on its progress. Attendees will also meet the chapter’ s new president, Richard Wilson of Huntington, WV, and receive an update on NARO’ s strategic vision for the increasingly promising future of the Appalachian Basin.

Challa, president of South Charleston Cardiology Associates, began his medical education in his native India and then moved to the U. S. to complete a medical residency and cardiology fellowship at Coney Island Hospital in New York. After completing his training in interventional cardiology at New York Medical College, he and his family moved to Charleston in 1989.
Challa is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology, and he is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American College of Chest Physicians and the Kanawha Medical Association. In February 2013, he was presented with the Distinguished West Virginian award by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, and in 2014, he received the American Heart Association’ s Heart of Gold Award.
University of Charleston Welcomes New President
Dr. Martin Roth has been named the 26th president of University of Charleston( UC).
Roth comes to UC from the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford, where he served as dean. While leading the Barney School, Roth guided increases in enrollment, program innovation, corporate partnerships, alumni engagement and fundraising. Prior to that, he was chair of the international business department and chief innovation and assessment officer at the University of South Carolina. His career also includes assignments as the associate director of research at the Pittsburgh Research Institute for Studies in
