PUTNAM COUNTY WELCOMES YOU! Putnam County, WV, is located in the second fastest-growing region of the state and has undergone rapid suburbanization. Known for offering a high quality of life for families and a great place to do business for companies, the community’s assets include economic vitality across all business sectors, innovative government leaders, dedicated law enforcement, diverse housing options, a wide range of health care choices, great schools and a variety of parks, amenities, community services, social activities and worship facilities. BUILDING BUSINESS “While many young people can’t wait to get out of their hometown, I couldn’t wait to get back and begin serving the business community,” says Ashley Alford, interim president of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. After studying public relations at West Virginia University, Alford returned to her hometown and began work at the chamber. “The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce has served the business community in Putnam County for more than 35 years. It has been so exciting to see Putnam County continue to grow and become a premier place in West Virginia for both small and large businesses alike.” GROWING COMMUNITIES Located within 30 minutes of downtown Charleston and Huntington, Putnam County offers the benefits of a tight-knit community within minutes of many of West Virginia’s best amenities. With that support, along with Putnam County’s nimble local government’s business-friendly policies and helpful staff, the ease of opening and growing a business in Putnam County is a breath of fresh air. The chamber also recently launched Area 34, the first coworking space, designed to meet the needs of entrepreneurs, start-ups and home-based businesses. People who live in or travel to Putnam County are often surprised to find burgeoning local food offerings with unique flavors ranging from ethnic cuisine to fusion to home-style cooking. Residents and visitors alike love that for an area with such a small-town feel, there is always something to do with festivals, activities, live music, classes and events offering opportunities for exploration of local art and history. “It’s an exciting time for businesses, residents and visitors in Putnam County,” says Kelli Dailey, executive director of the Putnam County Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The growth and changes happening now will give us resources we need to organize events that bring people together and provide an even warmer welcome to those visiting Putnam County from other areas.” An exciting project that will benefit the entire area is the complete renovation of Valley Park in Hurricane. Already loved for its miles of walking trails, scenic picnic areas and sports fields, the sports upgrades include three turf baseball fields, a regulation turf soccer field and an 18-hole disc golf course. Families will also enjoy a new ADA-compliant playground and significant upgrades to the Waves of Fun public pool. The Valley Park upgrade includes the addition of a 30,000-square-foot conference center, which will provide a venue for larger business meetings, conferences and conventions and personal events such as wedding receptions. With safe, clean and comfortable local accommodations, Putnam County will be an ideal place for business travel, group meetings and family fun! putnamcountycvb.com • putnamchamber.org
