wait to get back and begin serving the business community,” says Ashley Alford,
interim president of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. After studying
public relations at West Virginia University, Alford returned to her hometown
and began work at the chamber. “The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce
has served the business community in Putnam County for more than 35 years.
It has been so exciting to see Putnam County continue to grow and become a
premier place in West Virginia for both small and large businesses alike.”

with Putnam County’s nimble local government’s business-friendly policies and

coworking space, designed to meet the needs of entrepreneurs, start-ups and

An exciting project that will benefit the entire area is the complete renovation
of Valley Park in Hurricane. Already loved for its miles of walking trails, scenic
picnic areas and sports fields, the sports upgrades include three turf baseball
fields, a regulation turf soccer field and an 18-hole disc golf course. Families will
also enjoy a new ADA-compliant playground and significant upgrades to the
Waves of Fun public pool.
The Valley Park upgrade includes the addition of a 30,000-square-foot conference
center, which will provide a venue for larger business meetings, conferences and
conventions and personal events such as wedding receptions.
