Inside the Renovation The Iconic Charleston Civic Center By Samantha Cart Located in the heart of the Capital City, the Charleston Civic Center has been a hub for business, art and entertainment for almost 60 years. Built in 1958, the last capital improvements were made to the structure in 1980. Charleston Mayor Danny Jones, key players on the Charleston City Council and the civic center staff realized that in order to become competitive in the convention market, upgrades needed to be made to keep the facility on par with regional and national standards.
