Where Relationships Matter
Poca Valley Bank is proud to serve Putnam County with locations in Poca and Winfield, WV. Striving to be your local community bank, we take great pride in making local decisions regarding your financial needs.
One of the most common questions we are asked is how our name was chosen.
Our main office remains on the banks of the Pocatalico 109 years later. We have now expanded to seven locations: Walton, Clendenin, Elkview, Sissonville, Poca, Winfield and Spencer. With nearly 109 years in business, we bring reliability and relationship to our customers. Two of our biggest areas of success are showcased in mortgage and commercial lending.
“ A pebble’ s throw from our headquarters office in Walton, WV, runs the Pocatalico River,” says President and CEO Linda Ashley.“ I imagine our founding fathers correlating their vision of being a financial resource for the Walton community with the viable natural resource of the Pocatalico River. The Pocatalico River originates in Roane County and twists and turns throughout 75 miles of our rugged landscape. It rises near the community of Looneyville from a natural spring and flows southwestwardly through southern Roane into northern Kanawha County and past the community of Sissonville, flowing through southeastern Putnam County where it meets the Kanawha River near the town of Poca. Its name was officially declared in 1907. At this time, the Pocatalico was a viable resource used to transport lumber, consumer goods and livestock to and from market. In my simple mind, I see these gentlemen congregating in a smoke-filled room, discussing the name of their new venture and drawing the similarities of how the Pocatalico River starts in Roane County, is a resource for their livelihood and flows along a path through the valleys of neighboring counties, and ultimately our name was born— The Poca Valley Bank, Inc. The year was 1908.”
