Awards Reception

The Sharp Shooters Class of 2017, the
second group of West Virginians inducted into
West Virginia Executive (WVE) magazine’s new
awards program, was unveiled on June 1 at a re-
ception at the University of Charleston.
Both the venue and the honorees served as a reflection of the
power and prestige of the Mountain State. Overlooking the gold
dome of the State Capitol, each Sharp Shooter was given the op-
portunity to speak on what West Virginia means to them and how
they’ve earned such great success. As each of the 10 honorees spoke,
it became clear that dedication to family, community and state and
hard work both on the clock and off helped
these outstanding West Virginians forge a path
that has impacted their beloved state for the better.
A merger of the Sharp Shooters reception and
WVE’s annual energy celebration, the event theme,
“Fueling the Future,” made clear that like the abundant natural
resources that fuel our state and country, the Sharp Shooters
Class of 2017 is fueling the future of West Virginia.
Nominations were received for trailblazers from every corner
of the state, and selections were made based on career success
and past and present community involvement.
