Connecting Manufacturers to Solutions
West Virginia University’ s Industrial Extension( WVUIE) is the official state representative of the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership( MEP), a program of the U. S. Department of Commerce’ s National Institute of Standards and Technology. As part of the MEP National Network, WVUIE connects manufacturers with the expertise, tools and resources they need to enhance efficiency, increase profitability and expand market opportunities.
In fiscal year 2024 alone, WVUIE helped manufacturers achieve $ 37.4 million in increased or retained sales; create or retain 599 jobs; and secure $ 11.6 million in new client investments, contributing to an overall $ 51.5 million economic impact in West Virginia.
While the primary focus is on West Virginia’ s 852 serviceable manufacturers, WVUIE collaborates across state lines to strengthen the domestic supply chain. As part of its land-grant mission, WVUIE ensures West Virginia manufacturers have access to the latest industry advancements and best practices through benchmarking, training and knowledge-sharing programs.
Unlike traditional grants, the MEP program operates on a 1:1 funding match, requiring customers to invest in the services they receive. This funding is supplemented by support from the West Virginia Department of Economic Development, WVU and manufacturing clients who benefit from WVUIE’ s expertise.
“ The work of the WVU Industrial Extension is important to me as it provides great support to current organizations and West Virginians. It is a valuable resource for companies about to launch or wanting to grow,” says West Virginia Delegate Bob Fehrenbacher.
Connecting Students to Industry
