Would you believe me if I told you the majority of West Virginia Executive ’ s ( WVE ) on-site staff is Generation Z ?
Working for a print publication as a member of this digitally native generation is an intriguing experience — one that I find both empowering and extremely rewarding . Who knew having a tangible piece of all our hard work delivered to my office would be so satisfying ?
It ’ s no secret that we live in a digital world , so magazine readership trends continuing to change is inevitable , but because I grew up surrounded by ever-evolving technology , I ’ m able to seek out innovative ways to keep a print magazine relative online . According to 2019 and 2020 survey data from Statista , while print remains the preferred format
for magazines , there is an undeniable trend toward digital consumption . In 2021 , there were 222.2 million magazine readers aged 18 or older in the U . S .
Interestingly , Mediamax reports that millennials and Gen Z are turning toward print media for credible , well-researched content in this era of digital misinformation . The appeal of print media for these younger generations lies in its ability to evoke nostalgia and serve as a much-needed break from screen fatigue — a sentiment I both resonate with and appreciate .
WVE ’ s staff being primarily made up of Gen Zers allows us to approach each issue with a fresh perspective . We are adept at leveraging digital tools and platforms to enhance the reach and impact of the magazine .
From innovative social media strategies to interactive online features , we are exploring new avenues to engage our audience and adapt to their evolving preferences . Our inherent understanding of digital trends enables us to bridge the gap between print and online media .
