WORKING AT THE FAMILY BUSINESS as a teenager inspired Norman Mosrie to take an accounting class in high school to better understand the financial aspect of owning a small company . Mosrie ’ s father , who immigrated to the U . S . from Lebanon , established Mosrie ’ s Fashion Shop in 1924 .
“ Helping run the family store as a teenager , I was intrigued by the feeling of accomplishment of balancing the books ,” says Mosrie . “ Mom utilized a local public accountant to help her with more complex accounting matters and to file her tax returns , so I was inspired to learn more about accounting . I took an accounting class in high school and decided this was a good career choice for me . And the rest , as they say , is history .”
Upon graduating from Marshall University in 1985 , Mosrie ’ s dream was to secure a position with one of the Big Eight international accounting firms . Though he interviewed for a few out-of-state positions , he decided to remain in the Mountain State to help take care of his mother . Mosrie accepted a position at Ernst & Whinney in Charleston .
