WVU INVESTMENT IS TRANSFORMATIVE
The Eastern Panhandle is growing, and West
Virginia University( WVU) Health System is growing with the community it serves. With construction now underway on a new patient tower at WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center, the region is witnessing one of the most significant investments in its history: a $ 200.9 million project that will expand access to care while fueling local growth and opportunity.
The tower will increase the hospital’ s capacity from 190 to 325 private patient rooms and bring with it a host of new amenities, including family-centered spaces, improved dining options and nearly 450 additional parking spots. For patients and families, it means more comfort and convenience. For the community, it marks a turning point in how health care and economic development come together.
“ This is more than a construction project. It’ s a promise to our community,” Mark O’ Hern, president and CEO of WVU Hospitals East, says.
“ Berkeley County is projected to grow by 40 % by 2040, and this tower is designed to grow with it.”
The impact extends far beyond the hospital walls. WVU Medicine is also embarking on a $ 60 million expansion at Jefferson Medical Center in Ranson, creating a new ambulatory building with advanced imaging, lab services, medical office space and a cancer care suite. Together, the Berkeley and Jefferson projects will generate 550 new jobs, attract skilled medical professionals and strengthen the region’ s standing as one of the fastest-growing corridors in West Virginia.
