2022 Achiever of the Year
Thomacini Brown was born and raised in Cabin Creek , WV . Her father worked as a coal miner , and her mother worked as a janitor . With both parents working so often , Brown and her 14 siblings raised themselves — learning
to cook , clean and care for one another .
Brown became a local chef , serving and hosting the finest individuals north of the Mason- Dixon Line . Unfortunately , she lost her job after breaking her leg while trying to save her son from a dog attack . While recovering , Brown experienced mental abuse from her husband , resulting in depression .
Once recovered , Brown struggled to find work , burdened with having to use a cane because of her injury . Brown ’ s employment struggles led her to the Goodwill Prosperity Center in Charleston , WV , where she met with Goodwill ’ s Mission Services staff who
helped her find employment .
Today , at age 67 , Brown works in Goodwill ’ s administration building as a janitor . She enjoys morning conversations with President & CEO Dan Owen and having a place to work that feels like family .
