The Aspiring Nursing Program , with WVU Medicine , will provide nursing students up to $ 25,000 to support their everyday needs . Enrolled participants will receive $ 5,000 for each of the four semesters they ’ re in school plus a $ 5,000 sign-on bonus upon hire for a three-year work commitment . Students will also receive hands-on clinical immersive experiences at WVU Medicine to help them as they transition to practice .
The Student Nurse Investment Program , with Memorial Health System , was launched from a $ 10 million grant from the U . S . Department of Agriculture to address the nursing shortage and bridge the gap in access to health care in rural areas . This program will help increase the size of the Registered Nursing program and provide residents with in-demand and high-wage jobs upon completion . Students will receive a $ 6,000 stipend per semester and an $ 18,000 sign-on bonus with a three-year commitment to work for the health system upon graduation .
WVUP also works with Constellium , an aluminum supplier in Jackson County , to provide a career path to high school students . The Skilled Trades Scholarship Program is a collaboration that provides scholarships to selected students to help them earn a college degree and obtain a trade job . Students may choose to complete an Associate of Applied Science degree in multi-craft technology or reliability and maintenance technology offered through WVUP . After completing their associate degree , students will commit to employment with Constellium for at least five years as part of the scholarship requirements .
Program Availability
WVUP offers certificate , associate and bachelor ’ s degrees in over 50 subjects , and that number continues to grow to meet industry needs . In July , WVUP announced two new programs available to students — agribusiness and cosmetology .
“ At WVU Parkersburg , we match degree programs to industry needs . In both agriculture and cosmetology , we know jobs exist for trained employees ,” says Jackson .
The associate degree in agribusiness will prepare students to run and maintain a farm operation while giving them the knowledge to manage a farm financially . Students will receive hands-on experience from industry professionals in various agricultural fields on The Riverhawk Farm to help them step into an already established agribusinesses .
The associate degree in cosmetology will offer students a mix of classroom studies and hands-on training to prepare them for the beauty industry . This 16-month program instructed in the new WVUP School of Cosmetology and Esthetics will give students access to a classroom setting and a working salon to help them build up clientele and hone their expertise .
