The administrative area consists of an office for the fire chief , a large conference room for emergency situations , three support offices , a receptionist area and a secure vestibule adjacent to a large training room with seating for over 40 people . In 2016 , Herbert Hoover High School flooded and was deemed damaged beyond repair . Kanawha County Schools and the Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA ) worked together to provide an opportunity to replace the damaged school for the community . In March 2017 , Williamson Shriver Architects was selected as the design team for the new state-of-the-art high school . After months of design and FEMA ’ s approval , the project started progressing . In December 2019 , the construction of the new high school began with moving 2.3 million cubic yards of soil and rock to provide a clear 90-acre site for the new school . In February 2021 , construction started for the new 186,000-square-foot academic building and 21,000 square feet of athletic buildings .
The new school consists of more than 30 traditional classrooms , six science lab classrooms , a band room , a choral room , two art classrooms , a 370-seat auditorium , a competitive gymnasium with 1,000 seats , an auxiliary gymnasium with 400 seats , a two-story media center with four collaborative hubs and a fabrication lab with a wood shop in the vocational area of the school . All visitors enter the main building at a secure vestibule that connects to the administration area , consisting of offices , conference rooms and a separate guidance suite . The athletic department consists of separate P . E . and team locker rooms with access to the nearly 5,000-square-foot weight room available to all students . In addition to the building , the project included a 4,000-seat football stadium with an eightlane track , a soccer field , separate baseball and softball fields , tennis courts and ancillary buildings . Williamson Shriver Architects is humbled to have been part of this project to provide a great building for this community .
