Working Together to Grow and Sell the Destination

Regional Collaboration Shines Through in Tourism Summit

Nestled in the heart of North Central West Virginia is the area ’ s Destination Marketing and Management Organization , Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors ’ Bureau ( VMCCVB ). Officially representing Monongalia , Preston and Taylor counties , the organization ’ s collaboration reaches farther and wider . The VMCCVB is not just a conduit for tourism , but a catalyst for regional collaboration and growth , regularly working within its neighboring counties and beyond to engage industry leaders from the entire Mountaineer Country tourism region in selling the destination collectively , as it is well-known that visitors do not see boundaries .
These efforts were evident at the inaugural Mountaineer Country Tourism Summit on June 5-6 in Morgantown , WV .
To prepare for the Mountaineer Country Tourism Summit , the VMCCVB connected with its partners from various backgrounds , including convention and visitors bureaus ( CVBs ), lodging properties , restaurants , retail stores , airports , outdoor recreation initiatives and more . These hospitality and tourism professionals came together for two days of panel discussions , presentations and networking surrounding key opportunities and challenges facing the industry .
The summit was hosted by the VMCCVB and graciously sponsored by the Marion County CVB , the Bridgeport CVB , Mon Health , Civil and Environmental Consultants , Inc ., Southern Airways Express , RacerX , Guidon Creative , Hotel Morgan , Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place and the VMCCVB .
Local CVB Directors Susan Riddle ( Visit Mountaineer Country ), Tina Yoke ( Clarksburg ) and Leisha Elliott ( Marion County ) worked together to attract and engage tourism partners from the sevencounty Mountaineer Country tourism region at the inaugural Mountaineer Country Tourism Summit June 5-6 , 2023 .

The theme of the summit — Connecting the Dots to Grow and Sell our Destination — encouraged attendees to identify ways to work together toward the common goal … driving tourism in North Central West Virginia .
This milestone event was the first of many intentional meetings on a regional level . To date , the VMCCVB continues to work with local , regional and state partners to connect the dots on a wide array of projects , including the West Virginia Honey Trail , the Preston County Farm Crawl , bidding on high-profile sports events and more .
On its own , no West Virginia area is large enough to compete with the real competition outside of our state . To be on the map both nationally and internationally , counties need to work together more than ever .
