On August 22 , West Virginia Executive and the West Virginia University ( WVU ) College of Law recognized the Lawyers & Leaders Class of 2023 , an exceptional group making a lasting impression on the legal community .
Guests gathered at the WVU College of Law to honor the nominees and their ongoing commitment to improving the world around them . Each nominee was chosen for their dedication to serving their communities and enacting change , whether it be through legal work , educating tomorrow ’ s lawyers or participating in charitable work throughout West Virginia and beyond . This year ’ s Lawyers & Leaders reception was a true testament to the passionate , selfless and talented individuals who are educated or serve in West Virginia .
The honored members of the Lawyers & Leaders Class of 2023 are as follows : Alex Aide , director of programs and impact at Born This Way Foundation ; Tim Bailey , attorney at Bailey , Javins & Carter , L . C .; Jessica Brisendine , deputy general counsel at Equitrans Midstream Corporation ; Cody Corliss , associate professor at WVU College of Law ; Thomas Flaherty , founding member at Flaherty Sensabaugh Bonasso PLLC ; Ellen Maxwell-Hoffman , partner at Bowles Rice LLP ; Jason Pizatella , CEO of the Contractors Association of West Virginia ; Meshea Poore , vice president and senior diversity officer at the WVU Division of Diversity , Equity and Inclusion ; Beth Walker , chief justice for the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia ; and Caroline Leadmon and Nakia Ridgeway , members of the WVU College of Law Class of 2023 .
Established in 2017 , this annual awards program aims to properly recognize the many outstanding professionals who received their education at the WVU College of Law or are currently practicing in the state . All Lawyers & Leaders inductees are carefully selected for their hard work in advancing the legal profession and advocating for the rights of their fellow West Virginians . •
