Sanders completed her associate degree in business administration in 2003 at Valley College in Martinsburg . After many years in the workforce , she knew she needed more education to take her career to the next level . That led her to an online program that would give her the flexibility she needed while working . In 2020 , she earned her bachelor ’ s degree in business administration from Valley College .
Before coming to the Hive , Sanders worked in a similar role at the Region One Workforce Investment Board as the small business development center coordinator . Prior to holding that position , she was the business services coordinator for region one . Her most recent role was the career services advisor for
Valley College Online Division , where she provided student guidance on career choices , determining skills , strengthening recruitment potential and furthering educational opportunities .
West Virginia Junior College Launches New Program to Address Rural Health Care Workforce Shortages
West Virginia Junior College ( WVJC ) is delivering on its promise to empower change by creating opportunity . Starting this fall , students from 19 underserved rural counties will begin classes in a new hybrid online accelerated associate degree nursing program . Once licensed , graduates will be part of the effort to fill health care workforce shortages in rural areas across the country .
WVJC has designed its new nursing program to address the crucial issue of workforce shortages and the need for rural health care . One of the greatest struggles of rural communities is attracting and retaining health care professionals . Understaffing can lead to longer shifts and greater workloads for practicing professionals , which can cause burnout or even motivate these individuals to search for another position elsewhere .
Rural hospitals typically do not have the resources to compete with urban facilities ’ job offers and abundance of employment opportunities for spouses . Rural areas in general also offer less opportunities for education , so students who want to pursue advanced degrees tend to have to leave their communities in order to do so — and many do not

“ When I went looking for an apartment , I wore a mask . But they could still see I ’ m Black . I was told that they wouldn ’ t rent to me because they heard Black people were disproportionately getting COVID-19 .”
