EXCEPTIONAL KNOWLEDGE , DETAILED CRAFTSMANSHIP
Long before Mike Howell even knew what a structural engineer did , he was already learning lessons about construction that would one day serve as the foundation for Arrow Engineering . The journey began one summer morning when his dad arrived with a load of lumber and announced they would be building a deck on the back of the family ’ s home in New Brighton , PA . The lessons Howell learned that summer went much deeper than just understanding how to use power tools . They began to sow a seed in him about what it meant to work hard , be a craftsman and take pride in what you do .
In 2019 , some of the lessons learned building that deck helped form the core values upon which Howell established Arrow Consulting Group , a structural engineering firm located in Morgantown , WV , that specializes in residential , commercial and industrial projects .
EXCEPTIONAL KNOWLEDGE .
Arrow brings a comprehensive understanding of materials , codes and construction practices into every project .
CRAFTSMANSHIP MATTERS .
Arrow delivers only the highest-quality and most detailed drawings , specifications and reports .
Arrow respects the commitment its clients make in trusting the company with their projects . The phrase “ If you ’ re going to spend every day doing something , you may as well be the best at it ” has become a mantra for Howell as he watched Arrow grow to include projects from multiple markets over the entire Mid-Atlantic region . Arrow currently has projects that range from a small residential addition in Preston County , WV , to a multimillion-dollar office complex in Pittsburgh , PA .
WHAT MAKES ARROW SO UNIQUE IN THE INDUSTRY ?
“ We try not to do anything stupid ,” Howell says with a smile . While such a comment may seem out of place for a no-nonsense engineer , the Arrow team bases everything it does on being practical and clear and designing things that can be built without any issues .
“ If the people who are using our drawings or reports can ’ t understand what we are trying to convey or aren ’ t in agreement with the methods we are trying to use , we haven ’ t really done our jobs correctly ,” says Howell .
Howell believes the real difference is the amount of pride Arrow ’ s engineers put into their work .
“ We try to add a level of craftsmanship on every project we undertake ,” he says . “ Just like an expert woodworker can see art inside a raw piece of wood , our engineers can see the project coming together long before we put pencil to paper , and we work toward that vision from the first day we are involved in a project .”
Looking forward , Howell hopes to continue expanding Arrow beyond its current three-person staff .
“ We have a great client base and have been blessed with the opportunity to be part of several very unique projects , but we are always looking for that next challenge .”
