Introducing the
Young Guns Class of 2018
IN A 1947 PIECE for the Morehouse College
student newspaper, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote
that the true goal of education is intelligence
plus character. In this issue, which focuses on the
Mountain State’s education industry, it is fitting
that West Virginia Executive (WVE) is honoring
a group of state leaders who never stop learning.
Whether it is in the classroom, on the job, within
their families or in their communities, members
of the Young Guns Class of 2018 are constantly
learning about how to be better stewards of their
time, talents and resources in an effort to make
the greatest impact on West Virginia.
Every year, WVE chooses 10 standouts from
among hundreds of nominees to be given the
elite title of Young Gun—a selection process
that comes with a strict set of criteria. Honorees
must have lived and worked in West Virginia for
at least two years, be under the age of 43 at the
time of selection and have a dynamic resume of
community service. The Young Guns Class of
2018 is comprised of men and women who are
dedicated to lifelong learning and service to the
Mountain State.
This year’s Young Guns photo shoot took place
at prominent locations across Jefferson County.
Sponsored by the Jefferson County Convention &
Visitors Bureau, the region’s natural beauty, rich
history and variety of outdoor recreation venues
offered a unique backdrop to showcase this year’s
class and their success stories.
