The forensic investigation program at West Virginia University Institute of Technology ( WVU Tech ) has teamed up with the Beckley Police Department to develop an enhanced learning experience for students and local officers alike . This new partnership will allow Beckley ’ s new crime scene team to use WVU Tech ’ s crime scene house on the Beckley campus for training purposes and create opportunities for students to work in the city on mock crime scenes and trials , cold cases , vehicle processing and shooting incident reconstruction .
The partnership is a unique and powerful learning component for the program because it offers students a chance to work in a true-to-life environment alongside real first responders . Student Savings Program

Once upon a time , there were three little pigs …
Everyone knows it is never too early to start saving , and Poca Valley Bank ( PVB ) is putting this into practice by implementing a piggy bank exchange program to encourage children to start saving money .
In the fall of 2016 , Poca Valley Bank launched a savings program for the students at Walton Elementary School in Roane County . The program was developed in an effort to teach school-age children the importance of saving and create an atmosphere where saving becomes a habit for students .
It all starts with a little blue pig . Children are encouraged to fill their blue pigs with all quarters if possible . Once the blue pig is filled , they bring it into the bank and open a student savings account . Participants are then given a second , white pig to fill with any change and , lastly , a pink pig . Once the pink pig is filled , students bring it into the bank and make a deposit into their savings account .
The pigs have been a big hit with students , parents and grandparents alike , and many people are stopping by PVB ’ s local branches and requesting pigs for their family members . Nancy Scott , a PVB employee , enrolled all three of her grandchildren in the program .
“ The banks are so cute , and my grandchildren were all excited to get them ,” she says . “ I look forward to helping them fill their pigs on special occasions . I want to encourage them to start saving early because a little can become a lot over time .”
Come and join the fun ! Stop by one of PVB ’ s seven convenient locations — PVB ’ s staff would love to assist your child or grandchild in learning how to save .
