Introduction

On behalf of the Board members and the
Executive Team of the West Midlands Academic
Health Science Network, it gives me great
pleasure to welcome so many of you to our
Celebration of Innovation, WMAHSN’s 2016
stakeholder event.
So much has happened since our last
stakeholder event, and today is an opportunity
to find out how the AHSN’s membership
services and networks have developed over the
past 12 months. These services and networks
have allowed us deliver real impacts with
almost 40 programmes to improve health
outcomes and generate wealth across our
region by adopting proven innovations at scale
and pace. Today’s agenda affords an opportunity
to reflect on a wide range of achievements in a
multitude of areas, as well as to look forward to
what we will offer in the future.
Introduction
Significantly, this year our event includes the
presentation of our inaugural Celebration of
Innovation Awards. We received more than
80 entrants across the eight categories, from
local organisations large and small. All of the
shortlisted submissions show the outstanding
range of homegrown innovations available to
help the local health and care sector, industry
and academia to improve services, patient
outcomes and economic activity. We hope that
through recognition and reward we can really
put the West Midlands on the innovation map.
Good luck to everyone who entered!
I do hope that you enjoy the day and are able to
make the best use of the opportunities it affords
for networking, as well as to visit the various
stands that have been set up throughout the
venue.
