Mound a desirable lake community

Over the last few years, Mound has been solidifying itself as a go-to city on Lake Minnetonka’ s western shores. Between its miles of lakeshore and the Dakota Rail Trail running through the city, Mound has all of the physical aspects an outdoor lover could ask for.
The friendly and welcoming atmosphere, nestled in one of the state’ s top school districts, has been drawing in new residents for years.
The city has the largest population of the cities that line Lake Minnetonka. The population of Mound is nearly 9,000 according to latest statistics. More than 17 miles of lakeshore, mostly along Lake Minnetonka, are located in the 4.9 square miles of Mound.
While the city works to bring in development to the Harbor District, the Mound-Westonka Rotary has put forth significant effort to brighten up the area with temporary improvements including picnic areas, statues and a musical installation.
Recreation is a highlight of the city which includes miles of public shoreline, beaches, more than 300 public dock sites, a skate park and numerous other parks, several offering lake access. Also offering opportunities for recreation and enjoyment is the Dakota Rail Trail, running right through the downtown area.
Mound has drawn regional and national attention. It has been rated in the top 20 on real estate company Movoto’ s list of the Best Minneapolis Suburbs.
The city council chambers are located in the old city hall, now named the Centennial Building at 5341 Maywood Road, Mound, MN 55364. Meetings are held at 7 p. m. on second and fourth Tuesdays.
