WELCOME

W

Welcome to another issue of West Head Boatbuilders – The Magazine . We ’ re excited to feature some of the valued customers , employees , and suppliers we ’ ve had the pleasure of working with these last few months and more .
It was a busy winter here at West Head . We launched our latest project , the Callie Rosie , in the last week of February . You ’ ll see more on this beauty in our next issue . We ’ ve also recently employed the services of the renowned Ervin Olsen — featured in this issue — to be the shop ’ s official photographer .
The shop has been bustling nonstop with crew and customers alike . We wrapped up our first modified SeaDuck hull with the completion of Brody & Girls . Thank you so much to Carlyle and family for being such a pleasure to work with for those four months .
So far , 2021 is shaping up to be another busy year . Not only are we booked up with builds through December but we ’ ve also got some other major projects on the go : the construction of our new shop , the start of laying up our Grizzly Hulls , and experimenting with our SeaDuck hull mould .
Our new steel shop will either house our newly acquired Grizzly Hull mould or be where we finish boats . Previously , we ’ ve been purchasing our hulls from other shops , but when the opportunity to buy our own mould came up , we decided to take this on ourselves . We ’ ll be laying our own Grizzly Hulls up in-house from now on . This way , we can ensure we have access to a hull anytime we need it , and we don ’ t need to rely on anyone but the dedicated crew at West Head to get the job done .
The sizable Grizzly Hull has been in the marketplace for at least 15 years as a tried and tested hull . We ’ re looking forward to seeing the large vessels we can make working with this new mould .
Our team will also be working extensively with SeaDuck hulls over the next little while . As you read Carlyle Brannen ’ s feature in this issue , you ’ ll notice we modified the traditional hull to enlarge the hull to how he liked it . This is becoming a popular request and something our guys will be experimenting with more this year .
Although we are booking into 2022 for finished builds , our crew is available to supply a limited number of custom hulls . Whether you ’ re looking for a standard size or something larger , get in touch with us at the shop and we ’ ll see what we can do for you .
On behalf of everyone on the West Head crew , thank you for your support , enjoy the magazine , and we look forward to seeing you soon .
Andrew Newell , Owner West Head Boatbuilders Ltd .
