Leonard Edwards has had a streak of good luck .
Fishing season for 2022 is running smoothly on his brand new boat , the Voice of the Sea . The maiden voyage for the Voice of the Sea took place in January , and Edwards has been happily fishing on the new vessel since the beginning of April , with a long trip just ending the first week of May .
West Head had the privilege of helping Edwards build his luxurious new fishing vessel , which sports our Grizzly Extreme hull , a brand new hull designed for tough trips , both long and short .
EDWARDS BIDED HIS TIME WHEN IT CAME TO FINDING JUST THE RIGHT BUILDER FOR HIS CAPE ISLANDER-STYLE VESSEL .
He stumbled across West Head via a Facebook post in a private Nova Scotia-based fishing group .
The West Head builds that Edwards saw featured in photos and videos in the Facebook group made an impression on Edwards . “ I took a trip , went to Nova Scotia , and took a look at the boats that West Head had put out . Their work was second to none .”
However , the market was extraordinarily busy for boat builds during that time . “ It was sheer luck that I called Andrew at that time and asked him if he could build me a hull ,” Edwards explained . Edwards had originally planned on finding another shop to finish the job , but Andrew told Edwards that they could build the entire boat . Andrew booked Edwards in for a build “ and the rest was history on how things went !” says Edwards .
Edwards made frequent trips to Nova Scotia to oversee the build at West Head ’ s Clark ’ s Harbour boat shop . Edwards would spend at least two weeks per trip in Nova Scotia , and he estimates the total time spent in the area at roughly five months .
At the boat shop , Edwards got to know the builders very well , and the process was smooth . “ They don ’ t run into people getting boats built that have that much detail . . . that made the build itself much easier when they had drawings to go by . It was only a matter of tweaking some different things ,” Edward says .
Edwards remarks that being near the build shop was also a significant convenience for all parties as any of the tweaks required could be approved on the spot .
Of the design and amenities like the full , luxurious kitchen — complete with new appliances — a television , and modern finishings , Edwards says it ’ s “ phenomenal . . . My daughter , Janelle , had a heavy influence on the architecture and the layout . She fishes with me as well . The design 100 % has a woman ’ s touch !”
Edwards couldn ’ t be more pleased with the Voice of the Sea , saying the fishing has been plentiful since he ’ s started taking the boat out more frequently .
