Welcome friends , customers , employees , and suppliers . We ’ re so glad you picked up our latest edition of West Head Boatbuilders Ltd .— The Magazine . In this issue , we will be spotlighting some familiar community faces and update you on what ’ s been happening at West Head over the past few months .
This has been a very busy year for us so far , and we are happily booked up with lots of builds through the end of the year . What ’ s more , we ’ ve got some new projects we are enthusiastic about , including the new Grizzly Extreme Hull .
In addition to laying our own Grizzly Hull moulds in the shop , we are introducing the new Grizzly Extreme Hull . We ’ ve noticed a trend toward larger hull builds , which has been an exciting challenge for us . The original Grizzly Hull has been in the marketplace for at least 15 years as a high-performing hull , and we can ’ t wait to be working with this new extreme design .
As we ’ ve previously announced , we ’ ve built a new shop located at 69 Boundary Street , and we are continuing to hire , specifically looking for experienced carpenters . In this summer 2022 issue ’ s Employee Spotlight , we introduce you to Master Boatbuilder Stephen Watt whose been in this business for 38 years . Stephen joined our team when we were just starting out in 2016 and has been with us ever since . He is also the skilled craftsman who built the mould for our famed SeaDuck .
We also want you to meet Donnie Mahaney , a professional diver and longtime friend of the Newell family . At 75 , Donnie has had an exciting career and has no plans to retire any time soon . You ’ ll read about his adventures and even a near-death experience .
Also featured in this issue , get a peek at Robin Symonds ’ s boat , Lilly ’ s Luck . This 27-foot lobster boat took under two months to build and is out of an Aylward Outboard mould that we recently acquired .
Congratulations to Leonard Brud Edwards ’ s Voice of the Sea , a spectacular fishing boat and the first Grizzly Extreme hull . It had its successful launch in January of this year .
