West Head Boatbuilders Ltd. The Magazine Fall 2020 - Issue 1 | Page 5

HISTORY
secure the company the best of the best in experienced labour . The company also pays for up-to-date training and education for all of our employees and works hard to maintain a positive culture throughout the workplace .
Our team is committed to consistency in design . All of the boats that come out of the West Head shop are based off of the Cape Islander style of boat that was developed at the turn of the 20th century . We believe this is the superior design for lobster fishing in particular , but for general fishing as well .
Recently , West Had purchased two moulds that have enabled us to produce our own hulls instead of outsourcing hull production to local manufacturers . The SeaDuck hull and Grizzly hull add diversity to our inhouse product offerings while expanding our boatbuilding repertoire .
The hulls land on opposite ends of the spectrum . Whereas the SeaDuck hull ( 15 feet to 23 feet wide ) is a small and timeless mould designed for speed ( up to 20 knots ), the larger Grizzly hull ( 24 feet to 36 feet wide ) is designed for stability ( speed limited to 10 knots ).
The SeaDuck hull lost popularity when preferences shifted to larger boats . We intend to increase the size of the 35-yearold SeaDuck mould to meet this modern demand .
The larger , 15-year-old Grizzly hull has been growing in popularity over the last 15 years and we ’ re excited to incorporate this mould consistently into our building .
To date , West Head has built all of its boats made-to-order . As our company continues to grow , we ’ re considering building a boat on speculation come winter . We ’ re optimistic about the opportunity to test the waters in this new market and , if all goes well , potentially build more boats on speculation in the future .
Now , with the release of West Head ’ s first magazine , we ’ re diving in again . This magazine will showcase our company ’ s
world-class boats and hulls and the people we ’ ve shared them with , further setting us apart as a leader in the local industry . In fact , we are the first in our local industry to release such a publication .
The purpose of West Head Boatbuilders Ltd . The Magazine is to strengthen the relationship between West Head and our customers : commercial and recreational fishermen . The publication will serve to showcase some of our best work and put the spotlight on those valued customers who have purchased one of our world-class watercrafts . We ’ ll feature the boats we ’ re working on , the hulls we ’ re working with , the fisherman we ’ ve worked for , and more .
I believe the magazine features will be a valuable memento for clients to hold onto after the completion of their customized watercraft , and I look forward to the increased engagement the publication will bring for the company .
