The healing powers of root vegetables
By Sarah Blenis
We all know that vegetables are good for you. There are various positive health reasons why we need to be eating our veggies daily but today were going to talk about some veggies that don't always get to shine at the dinner table or at all to be frank. Two root vegetables specifically have been jumping in and out of my life for a while now. Tumeric and ginger. Tumeric is usually thought of as a spice in Eastern cuisine, when someone says tumeric more or less likely the first image that comes to mind is a yellow powder form of the spice. What most people DONT know is that tumeric can also be taken in pill form and can be found in raw root form, looking very similar to a ginger root. Tumeric has strong anti-inflammatory benefits, and is good for things like arthritis. It is also rich in Vitamin C and minerals such as pottasium. The other root vegetable I want to talk about today is ginger. Ginger is something used in various ways across the globe. I use it mainly for tea when I am sick, it seems to be the only thing that actually makes me feel like I am getting better when I drink it. I take the raw root and grate fresh pieces into my cup and pour hot water over it to feel like I am getting the full effect of the ginger. Ginger and tumeric both have been called cancer healing roots. Ginger is definetly more commonly known amongst health enthusiets than tumeric but they are both none theless powerful and healing in their own ways. Not only are they healing for physical ailments but are also known to cure mental struggles that the common forty hour working human seems to deal with, like depression. Which is why we are proud to present our special recipe on pg.5 for tumeric ginger lemonade that is known to cure depression. Please check it out!
