Virgin Falls
Hwy. 70 W. between Pleasant Hill and Sparta
This 1,157-acre natural area is located in White
County. It features the 110-foot high Virgin Falls, but
there are other waterfalls along the nine-mile trail.
This should be considered a strenuous hike. Allow
five to nine hours to complete the hike.
Ozone Falls
Hwy. 70 E. between Crab Orchard and Westel
Ozone Falls is a 43-acre natural area featuring the
110-foot waterfall. Fall Creek disappears from the
rock-strewn pool below, re-emerging downstream. A
rugged 3/4-mile trail begins at the bluff near the falls
and descends into the gorge. The trail follows Fall
Creek to the confluence with Renfro Creek where
hikers must backtrack to return to the trailhead.
Piney Falls State Natural Area
Hwy. 68 between Grassy Cove and Grandview
This 440-acre natural area is located in Rhea
County where Little Piney and Soak creeks have
carved deep gorges into the Plateau. Piney Falls is
also recognized by the United States Department of
the Interior. Little Piney Creek drains the majority of
the area and plunges some 80 feet over Upper Piney
Falls into the pool and then drops another 40 feet
over Lower Piney Falls.
Obed Wild & Scenic River
The Obed Wild and Scenic River features miles of

accessible rivers and rapids for kayakers and lovers
of the great outdoors.
Obed River, Clear Creek, Daddy’s Creek and the
Emory River all come together throughout the Obed
Wild and Scenic River’s miles of waterways. The
natural area also features the Nemo Bridge near
Wartburg, the Lilly Bluff overlook and arch.
The park is also designated as an International
Dark Sky Park, which makes for fantastic night sky
viewing opportunities.
Obed Wild and Scenic River can be found just
east of Cumberland County in bordering Morgan
County near Wartburg and Lancing.
Gateway to the Big South Fork
Located just north of Cumberland County in
Fentress and Scott counties, the Big South Fork
covers 125,000 acres in northern Tennessee and
southern Kentucky.
Big South Fork surrounds the Cumberland River
and its tributaries, and features miles of trails,
sandstone bluffs, camping opportunities and more.
Historic buildings and locations can be found
throughout the area, as settlers came into the Big
South Fork in the late 1700s, though the Cherokee
people were known to be in the area prior to their
arrival.
Here in Crossville on Cook Rd. near the Genesis
Rd. I-40 exit, the Big South Fork visitor center offers
valuable information for those looking to visit the
recreation area.
