Welcome To
Cumberland County is the third largest county in land in
Tennessee, containing 685 square miles. Cumberland
County sits atop the beautiful Cumberland Plateau, the
largest wooded plateau in North America. The Plateau
features rolling hills, woodlands and many streams
backdropped by nearby mountains.
Established in 1856, Cumberland County was carved
from portions of Bledsoe, Roane, Morgan, Fentress,
Rhea, Putnam, Overton and White counties.
The county seat is Crossville, and other incorporated
communities in the county are Crab Orchard and
Pleasant Hill. There are also the resort communities
of Fairfield Glade and Lake Tansi Village.
Cumberland County is known for its natural beauty,
its natural resources and its natural talents. From the
world-famous Tennessee Quartzite stone, known as Crab
Orchard Stone, quarried here to the local talent that
entertains crowds from across the United States visiting
the Cumberland County Playhouse, to dozens of outdoor
activities and recreational opportunities offered by nearby
state and national parks and natural areas, there are many
treasures to discover.
