HIGH FALLS
“ There is always something to amuse you,” said McGee.
When asked about his favorite picturesque spots at the park, McGee said the sun on the dam in the morning is pretty, especially after rains. He likes the view of the natural falls below the road and from the bridge. He recommends the views of the lake from the back porches of the yurts.
McGee meets many people who come to High Falls State Park from the Atlanta area to spend a couple of days away from the rush. He met a couple from South Dakota who had visited High Falls 8-10 years ago and made a point to stop back by and relish the memories of the earlier trip.
Most visitors from out-oftown make their way to High Falls in the spring and summer months, but when asked for his favorite photos of the area, local resident Bud Queen sent some pictures of the the park colored by autumn leaves and touched with the sparkle of white snow on bare branches.
There are an abundance of opportunities for locals to have a special relationship with their state park. Queen is the president of the Friends of High Falls State Park group that organized earlier this year. The group welcomes everyone who would like to become involved with maintaining and adding to the beauties and amenities the park offers. Park superintendent Chambers says the Friends group is growing and he has received offers of assistance from volunteers in several areas of need, from maintaining trails to electrical work. He said the help is especially needed because of the cut-backs in funding state parks have endured over

the last few years. Chambers said some excellent values at the park are offered with the different levels of membership in Friends of state parks.
Chambers said he would love to see someone, such as an Eagle Scout candidate, take on landscaping projects in the park.
