In keeping with the commitment made by the Georgia Power Company when the land was originally purchased, the lake and some of its surrounding uplands are leased to, and managed by, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Under this agreement, no commercial areas or private marinas are permitted. The area is designated for the public enjoyment of hunting, boating, sailing and some of the best fishing in the state.
