Monroe County has lots of water ways where kids of all ages can enjoy outdoor recreation.

1Visit the Welcome Center on North Lee Street for brochures on places you can visit, or point your web browser to www. themiddleofeverywhere. com.

2Stroll around the historic downtown square to see the county’ s red-brick Victorian courthouse and other historic buildings. Tours of the courthouse will begin in the Fall. Call( 478) 994-7000 to schedule a tour.

3Worship in the oldest brick Methodist church in Georgia at the Culloden United Methodist Church on Main Street in Culloden.

4Visit Culloden’ s historic sites in southern Monroe County, including the Culloden Cemetery and Culloden Museum. Learn about the Battle of Culloden, which was fought after the surrender at Appomatox. Then go visit the site of the Battle of Culloden, which is denoted by a historical marker. When you’ re done, refresh with lunch at the delectable Lockett’ s Country Kitchen.

5Visit the Forsyth Soldiers Cemetery at the City Cemetery off Newton Memorial Drive in Forsyth where the remains of 299 Confederate soldiers lie, as well as a female nurse who died rendering care to the wounded soldiers.

6Hike a trail in the Oconee National Forest.
