Office of Solid Waste

The Office of Solid Waste is responsible for coordinating residential collection services in the City of Port St . Lucie for garbage , recycling , bulk items , yard waste and other materials . The Office of Solid Waste is also responsible for monitoring commercial operations and the enforcement of the City ’ s Solid Waste Code of Ordinances ( City Ordinance Sec . 50.06 ( d ) ( 4 ).
Please place waste items curbside after 6 p . m . the night before pick-up . Use your City-issued garbage and recycling cart , before leaving it at the curb .
Bulky Waste - collected monthly
Bulky waste collection is intended for items too large to fit inside the garbage can . Bulky waste are items such as boxes , barrels , crates , furniture , mattresses , wood , exercise equipment , swing sets and basketball goals ( broken down ), refrigerators , stoves and other household appliances . Two cubic yard limit ( once per month ). To find your bulk waste day , visit CityofPSL . com / SolidWaste
Garbage - collected weekly Garbage must be in a tied bag and in a covered bin to prevent it from filling with rainwater . Garbage cans are not provided by the City and should be no larger than 96 gallons and weigh no more than 50 pounds .
Recycling - collected weekly What is single stream recycling ?
Single stream recycling refers to the system in which all kinds of recyclables are put into a single bin by residents . Recyclables include items such as bottles , cans , jars and jugs made of aluminum , glass , plastic , steel and / or tin , along with cardboard , paper and paperboard .
Yard Waste - collected weekly Yard waste is vegetative matter resulting from yard and landscaping maintenance , and includes , but is not limited to , shrub and tree trimmings , grass clippings , palm fronds , branches and bulky yard waste . When disposing of yard waste , cut tree limbs and branches to a manageable size , not exceeding 4 feet in length and 6 inches in diameter , excluding palm fronds . Individual containers cannot weigh more than 50 pounds and 4 cubic yard limit .
When there is a named storm and the projected path puts the City of Port St . Lucie near , or into , the cone of uncertainty , stop all outdoor maintenance and tree trimming activities .

Hazardous Waste Hazardous items are dangerous to put in garbage cans and recycling carts , but can be disposed of in two ways :
1 . The St . Lucie County Sanitary Landfill , 6120 Glades Cut Off Road , Fort Pierce , accepts hazardous waste . Call 772-462-1768 for hours and for information about what will be accepted .
2 . Twice a year , the City ’ s Public Works Department hosts a free Hazardous Household Waste Collection Day . The department also has free drop-off sites at city buildings for rechargeable batteries , cell phones , etc .

There is a City Convenient Drop-Off Center , located at 1501 SW Cameo Blvd . on the corner of Cameo Boulevard and Crosstown Parkway . Proof of Port St . Lucie residency is required . Contact the City ’ s Office of Solid Waste at 772-871-1775 press # 5 for hours of operation .
