Thessaloniki was the daughter of King Philip II and sister of Alexander the Great of Macedonia. Her name is a reminder of the great victory of Philip II in Thessaly. Her husband, King Cassander, named the new city after her in 316 B. C. E. The city of Thessaloniki has a long history.
