The IT Suite is located in the Library. They are
around to help with your IT questions, so anything
you are not sure of, such as connecting to Wifi,
how to print, using your IT Account, they will be
happy to help.
Getting to know
the Library
You are going to spend a lot of time in the Library
(and even more now that it is open 24 hours a day)
so it is really important that you learn how to get
the most out of it. You will find the Library
webpages and KLE resources invaluable.
They have lots of useful information such as which
books are located where and the floor plans of the
building, so you can get a head start and feel that
you know the place when you first walk through the
doors. During the first few weeks, there will be lots
of staff and student guides on hand to answer any
questions, point you in the right direction and
explain how things work. To find out more go to:
www.keele.ac.uk/library.
Specialist technology for blind/partially sighted
students is available in the AV room in the library.
Ask at Reception for access to these
specialist resources.
The local public bus services are very frequent,
departing every 10 minutes to Newcastle, Stoke
(station), Hanley and Longton operated by First Bus
and D&G with an hourly service to Madeley and
Crewe. Both providers have a range of discount
tickets and First Bus offer an annual pass to Keele
students at a cost of £299. These are available from
the Students’ Union Reception and give unlimited
use of all First Bus services in Staffordshire and
South Cheshire.

Cars on Campus
You must hold a valid driver’s licence, insurance and
vehicle test certificate, where applicable, and
produce them for checking when making an
application to bring a vehicle onto campus. This is
to ensure that our campus remains a safe place to
walk or drive and ensure that if the worst happens
you can be compensated.
Registration of vehicles and purchase of
parking permits
Cycles on Campus
More details can be found on the University website
in the Transport and Parking Management Policy.
There are covered storage areas for cycles at
Hawthorns, Holly Cross / The Oaks, Lindsay,
Horwood, and at Barnes.
Students living on campus are not automatically
eligible to obtain a parking permit. If you have a car
and wish to bring it onto campus regularly, you
need to apply and pay for a parking permit. This is
completed via an online system and can normally
be done during the weeks prior to the start of term.
Student parking is zoned with a maximum number
of permits issued for each zone. Charges vary with
cheaper parking available for car parks on the
perimeter of the campus. All student car parks are
within a few minutes’ walk from the centre
of campus.
The website to make an application is:
www.cpppermitsystem.co.uk/keeleuniversity/
login.php
Click on the link to ‘Register’ for a new application.
The website opens for application early in
September and you will get more details circulated
prior to the ‘opening’ date.
Alternatively, if you visit only occasionally, you may
use the pay and display parking facilities on the
Students’ Union ‘E2’ car park only. However, the
cost of a parking permit is comparatively low so
even for occasional use, a permit may work out
cheaper for the year.
Any car not displaying a permit or a parking ticket
or parked on campus roads or unauthorized areas
may lead to the issue of a civil parking notice. If you
are an undergraduate medical student or attending
placements, please see the information contained
in the induction pack provided by the School.
If you are registered with a disability and possess
and display a ‘Blue Badge’, you may use any
disabled space and do not need to display a permit.
Students with disabilities or exceptional medical
circumstances should contact Disability and
Dyslexia Support for guidance and assistance
(see page 36 for contact details).
The Keele Campus and surrounding areas offer
great opportunities to get out and about on your
bike. Throughout the Halls of Residence there are a
number of secure bicycle stores for use by
students. You can register your bicycle and obtain
keys for individual storage units from the Student
Accommodation Office in the Darwin Building by
showing your Keele Card and on payment of a
refundable £10 deposit. You will be reimbursed for
the deposit upon return of the receipt and the key.
Cycles are left at your own risk, so make sure yours
is insured (it is not covered by your campus
room insurance).

Services at Keele
Most academic buildings on campus have covered
cycle racks and there is a flourishing Keele Cycle
Group for support and advice. They also arrange
occasional social cycle rides. Most local cycle shops
offer a discount to Keele students.
And for those who don’t have a bike with them at
Keele, KeeleSU Activities run ‘Keele-on-Wheels’, a
bike scheme providing students with short term
cycle hire. For more information, visit keelesu.
