Bringing money into the country
It is very unsafe to travel with large amounts of
cash, so we recommend that you pay your tuition
fees online in advance.
You MUST NOT bring your tuition fees in
cash to the UK.
If you currently live outside of the EEA or
Switzerland, you are required to declare any money
you are carrying with you if it is more than 10,000
Euros or equivalent, including bank drafts and
travellers cheques.
Payment of Tuition Fees
If you are on the study abroad/exchange package
your fess will be due before you arrive. Either you
or your home institution will be invoiced. Details of
your tuition fees for 2015/6 were included within
your offer letter (if applicable).
If you are responsible for your own fees you can
pay either in full or in two instalments. More
information on payment methods and payment
dates is available on our website at
www.keele.ac.uk/finance/income
Please note that all forms of payment must be in
British Pounds Sterling – the Euro is not a currency
accepted in the UK.
Accommodation Fees
If you will be living in campus accommodation, you
will need to pay your accommodation fees in three
instalments. You will also need to make an advance
payment of £450 to secure your room before you
arrive. This £450 payment is split between a £150
room deposit, which is refundable (less any
damages or outstanding debts) when you vacate
your room and £300 payable towards the first
instalment of your accommodation fees.
Details of the room that you have been allocated
will be sent to you separately before you arrive. You
will receive your accommodation offer by email. It
will explain how to view the contract and terms and
conditions before you accept the offer. We will also
send an invoice to your Keele email address
detailing the amount and due dates of each
payment. If you have concerns about being able to
meet the payment deadlines, including the deposit
and advance payment deadline, you should contact
the Income Office as soon as possible. Before you
arrive we will send you a copy of our ‘Welcome to
Keele – Living Away From Home Guide’ which can
also be downloaded from our webpages.

EU/EEA Students
Students from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic,
Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland,
Romania, Slovakia or Slovenia no longer need to
register under the Worker Registration Scheme.
Students from these countries can now work in the
UK without needing permission.
All other EEA or Swiss nationals are entitled to work
in the UK without restrictions.
Bank Accounts
It is essential that you open a UK bank account once
you have arrived in the UK and have enrolled at
Keele, but it may take a few weeks before you will
be able to use this account. Because of this, we
recommend you bring around £300 in cash and a
further £300 in travellers cheques to cover your
general living expenses for the first few weeks you
are in the UK.
Advice on how to open a bank account is available
from International Student Support on arrival and
several banks will be present on campus during
International Welcome.
