Your Visa
EU, EEA and Swiss Students

If you are an EEA or Swiss National, you do not
need to apply for entry clearance, as you already
have the right to study in the UK for the full length
of your course. However, you may choose to apply
for a registration certificate, which confirms that
you have a right of residence as a student.
It is essential that you have the correct status to
study in the UK. You can use the following link to
check if you need a visa to enter the UK
www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa. If you do need a visa
to enter the UK, you will be required to apply for
entry clearance to come to the UK as a student and
your application will be assessed using the Points
Based System.

Student Visitor Visa – Single semester only

Most non-European visiting students (exchange
and study abroad) enter the UK under the category
of “student visitor”. Students cannot work or
volunteer while on this visa and it cannot be
extended beyond the six month term – which
means that you cannot stay in the UK past that
date. The student visitor visa usually doesn’t have
to be applied for in advance; instead you ‘apply’
when you enter through the immigration
checkpoint at your UK (arrival) airport. If you
choose to apply in person, the visa is free, but you
must have your Keele acceptance letter on your
person, as well as a letter from your home
institution stating that you will be returning there to
complete your degree.

2. Tier 4 Visa – Full Year Study

For courses over 6 months duration, you will need
to apply as a Tier 4 (General) Student and gain
40 points.
• 30 points will be awarded for having a
Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies
(CAS Number) from Keele University.
• 10 points will be given for proving that you have
enough money to meet the cost of studying and
living in the UK (known as maintenance funds).
