ENRICHMENT SPORTS From Reception to year 5, pupils will have four PE lessons per fortnight, in years 6 to 9 they will have three lessons. The PE lessons follow a carousel of activities, including two four-week blocks of swimming and will be assessed at the end of each sporting activity against the English National Curriculum. At years 10 and 11 we offer GCSE PE and at years 12 and 13 we offer IB sport. At Wellington, we aim to unlock the potential of each pupil by exposing individuals to experiences and opportunities that allow them to reach their desired goals. Specialist teachers and coaches are used to deliver PE and sport at every possible stage and implement an integrated PE and sports programme which challenges every pupil appropriately. The aim of the sport programme at Wellington is to ensure a high-quality sporting experience for all pupils, leading to a lifelong involvement in physical activity and sport, regardless of the individual’s level. The College offers a wide range of sports and physical activities in our CCA programme, including the traditional British sports of rugby, netball, hockey and cricket, as well as regional sports like basketball and volleyball. In addition to competitive swimming, we also offer water polo, triathlon, and synchronised swimming. Individual sports like table tennis, tennis, fencing, gymnastics, cross country and athletics as well more fitness-based activities such as spinning, circuit training, yoga and zumba are also available. The College is very fortunate to have world-class sporting facilities on site, which enable us to host a wide range of sporting events throughout the year. We have also set up partnerships with outside sports clubs in Shanghai to maximise the pupils sporting experience at Wellington. 36 COMPETITIVE SPORTS LEAGUES The College offers a wide range of competitive sporting opportunities and competes in events as part of its membership of SISAC (Shanghai International Schools’ Athletic Conference), CISSA (China International Schools Sports Association), SCL (Shanghai Competitive League), SPFL (Shanghai Primary Football League), SSL (Shanghai Swim League), BSL (British Schools’ League), SSSA (Shanghai Schools Sports Association) as well as the international sporting conferences ACAMIS (Association of Chinese and Mongolian International Schools) and FOBISIA (Federation of British Schools in Asia). All these organisations provide regular competitive fixtures in rugby, netball, football, swimming, volleyball, basketball, athletics, badminton and table tennis for Wellington pupils to participate in and enjoy. The sports department will contact parents directly regarding teams and fixtures, and further details can be found on our sports website: http://sports-wccsi.wellingtoncollege.cn/ SERVICE AT WELLINGTON Wellington College has a strong tradition of service, embedded in the ethos of our values. Each pupil has both the opportunity and a duty to carry out various forms of service during their time at Wellington. This can be within College, at a local, national or international level, and can take many forms, all of which help in the holistic education and personal development of those involved. The idea of service begins at an early age at Wellington, in the Pre-Prep, with opportunities for charitable and other more specialist support work. The College has a series of designated charities, some of which open up possibilities for individual involvement. This continues into the Prep and Senior schools, where our commitment to service culminates in the CAS programme (Community, Action and Service) in the IB and, our programme of Service Learning. The Service Learning programme is embedded within academic projects, ensuring that service explicitly relates to the subjects the pupils study. Service learning projects offer pupils a chance to engage in a meaningful way with the community while also expanding their depth of study in a particular subject. All service learning projects allow pupils to apply an academic interest to a real-world setting.
