A Home Away From Home:
Chayla Parker’ s Journey with the Weinstein JCC
For many, the Weinstein JCC is more than just a community center— it is a place of connection, growth, and lifelong memories. Sixteen-year-old Chayla Parker, a student at Hermitage High School’ s Allied Health and Human Services Specialty Center, has been part of the Weinstein JCC family since preschool. From her early years in Camp Ganim and preschool, to Camp Hilbert, competing on the swim team in the Maccabi Games, and taking on leadership roles as a camp counselor, the JCC has been a central part of her journey.
The Weinstein JCC Dolphin Swim Club was a transformative experience for Chayla. She developed on a personal level and as an athlete. Her participation in the Maccabi Games allowed her to connect with Jewish athletes from around the world, culminating in a gold medal victory in the swim relay race. Beyond athletics, her role as a 1:1 buddy in the camp for children with special needs proved life-changing, inspiring her to consider a career in Occupational Therapy.
Chayla’ s mom, Melissa Monterio, recognized the profound impact the Weinstein JCC had on her daughter’ s growth. From camper to counselor, the Weinstein JCC provided Chayla with a safe and supportive environment while fostering her personal development. Melissa noted that the structured programs allowed her daughter to flourish under the guidance of this unique community.
The Weinstein JCC continues to shape the lives of many children and families, creating a sense of belonging and opportunity for growth.
