51 Chapter 6 – Goal sabotage Self-sabotage is when we say we want something and then go about making sure it doesn ' t happen. Alyce Cornyn-Selby By now I hope you are beginning to realize that, as perfectly normal human beings, if we want to maintain a new eating lifestyle for the longterm it simply won’ t happen if we have to make too many significant sacrifices.‘ But if we are still going to eat our forbidden foods as well as eat until we feel full, then how will we lose weight?’ I hear you ask. First things first – you will not lose a lot of weight quickly on this diet. I know, I just failed Diet Marketing 101. Anyone who wants you to buy their book, or their food products, or join their gym, should be telling you that within two weeks you will lose twice your body weight while eating all your favorite fast foods without having to lift a finger – and the personal trainer will do the workout for you! As long as you at least visit the gym and talk to them the weight will just fall off you! Well I might have fewer readers when I say that your weight loss will be slow, but hey, I like to sleep soundly at night. In fact, instead of having a goal of losing lots of weight – and then being disappointed when you don’ t – my goal for you, if you will allow me, is this: The goal is to develop a healthy eating lifestyle while really loving your food. What I am suggesting here is that we shift the goal from‘ losing weight’ to‘ developing a healthier eating lifestyle’.
