All Things New
and Beautiful
New years are always full of hope and cheer! Don’t be afraid to make resolutions; let’s wipe the slate clean and look toward the new horizon! And
why not?! It’s like a brand new notebook with fresh, crisp paper—you just
want to get that first page right. You don’t want to mess it up. Oh let’s not
count the ways. Cynics can kiss my adage!
So what kind of horizon awaits us? A world of new experiences to stimulate the mind and exhilarate the body!
Singapore has an almost underground jazz scene, which is about to be
propelled into the viewfinder of mainstreamers. Its debutante ball is the
inaugural Singapore International Jazz Festival starting end February! I
was on a Natalie Cole Jazz binge back in the 90s and to have her and other
jazz greats live on stage is going to be phenomenal!
I’m a casual art appreciator so I’m looking forward to Singapore’s first-ever
specially curated tour of the city’s premier art galleries that begins this
month. Art in Motion will inspire you with a focused view of Singapore’s
own art districts. From the Bugis precinct to the Tanjong Pagar Distripark,
expect art enclaves and pop-up installations to bowl you over.
Celebrate The Year of The Horse
And I love a fun run, especially the type where you get to dress up, be silly
and win loads of cash! The Mediacorp Hong Bao Run 2014 is Mediacorp’s first running event during the Lunar New Year! I guess it’s only fitting
that the runners will be gunning towards a rather hefty ang pao prize of
$88,888! That’s a lot of good luck that can inspire anyone to move those
little legs as fast as possible towards the finishing line!
Reunion Dinner
intheTASTE
It’s that time of year when families gather, long-lost relatives pop up at your door for a round of visits, and the
reunion dinner plays a big part at the dining table again. In short, it is Chinese New Year, a time to celebrate the
arrival of spring and all things new, red and rowdy. The reunion meal on Chinese New Year Eve arguably ranks top
in every Chinese family’s to-do list during this festive period. It signifies the cohesiveness of a closely-knit family as
every member congregates to eat, drink and talk about anything under the sun.
A fine meal though is not just about the togetherness, but is also synonymous with good food. The feast that’s held
on the eve of the New Year is always well prepared and sumptuous. Essentials of the feast include fish (representing
an abundant year), abalone (representing good fortune), shallot (representing wisdom), mixed vegetable
(representing family harmony) and duck (representing fertility).
Too lazy to painstakingly prepare your reunion meal at home and simply hankering for a fine restaurant to dine in?
It is now often that families still gather together but do not eat at home. Many restaurants offer a Reunion Dinner
package inclusive of the tossing of Yu Sheng for prosperity.
We scour the island of Chinese restaurants and found the best ones for you to enjoy your Chinese New Year dining
with your family.
And at Roundhouse: Pizza Bar & Grill, we auspiciously start 2014 with excellent menu additions and plenty of promotions to make every week of
the year entertaining! And I mean, every day of the week!
Monday is quiet and romantic; perfect for date night, so we’ve matched it
with our Steak & Wine Evening. Two rib eye steaks and a bottle of premium
wine to share. Perfect, with a perfect price tag of just $120++.
Get over the Tuesday blues. Yes, I find the second work day of the week the
most depressing. So we cheer you up with a treat - Happy Hour, All Night!
This is only one day of the week so take advantage of it!
We challenge your trivia prowess every Wednesday night with our weekly
Quiz Night challenge. That’s coupled with a $200 discount off your tab; if
your team wins, that is!
And Thursday is when we rev up your chances of getting some. Some
iron, I mean. How does a dozen oysters and bottle of premium wine at
just $79++ sound to you?
And as for Friday, well it’s part of our daily weekday steal; $18++ for 2 martinis, all night long, Mondays to Fridays!
Weekends are when we Brunch it up and Sundays are our proudest day
where we feature a traditional Sunday Roast with all the trimmings that
make it oh-so-gravy-good!
Art and music; food and fun. Here’s to a delicious, inspiring, creative, exhilarating, silly 2014! Don’t mess it up. But if you do, don’t count the ways
either!
