Porterhouse

A quaint shophouse exuding old-world charm with a hint of elegance, Porterhouse offers an exceptional dining experience for those on the hunt for quality meats to take their
breath away. The ambience was very settling, with its dim lighting, while the wooden furnishings and raw industrial appearance carries a touch of modern simplicity. What makes
Porterhouse stand out and even more reputable is their originality of being the first in Singapore to import the josper charcoal oven that is highly distinctive from other steakhouses.
As I settled into my seat, Porterhouse’s in-house
drink, Fruit Punch Freeze was elegantly presented in a martini glass. This thirst-quenching
saccharine drink instantly refreshes with a special concoction of mango juice, cucumber, raspberry syrup and a dash of Sprite. Although not
on the menu, regulars of Porterhouse are well
acquainted with this drink and highly recommend this energising cooler.
The appetisers served were the Mini Crab Cake
Trio and Fresh Ocean Prawns. Between the two
appetisers, the Fresh Ocean Prawns garnered
the most attention as it was delivered effortlessly with quality. The jumbo prawns were extremely fresh and succulent, drowned in chilli
gravy that was impressively capable of being
a dish of its own. The Mini Crab Cake Trio was
freshly baked, served straight from the oven
and was generously stuffed with crabmeat
alongside Dijon mustard. The soft texture and
moistness of the meat is indescribable. Following that, the Potato and Leek Soup was served
with a drizzle of cream and crispy thin croutons
atop. The potato and leek was simply blended
with mild spices, giving it a smooth texture and
delectable creamy taste.
The highlight of the day, in my opinion, would
have to be the Colorado Rack Of Lamb. Despite
the many cooking techniques available, we
had our lamb medium well done. Presented in
front us was a whole rack of lamb served with
mashed potato, mesclun salad and mint sauce.
The soft texture of the lamb that was cooked
to absolute perfectness was impressive, as they
were capable of eliminating the common overpowering lamb aftertaste. Dazzled by this dish,
we ordered two additional sides consisting of
Sauteed Baby Spinach & Mushrooms and the
Grilled Asparagus with extra virgin olive oil and
balsamic glaze. It was indeed a great combination with the opulent meat dishes as it was
lightly cooked with seasonings, bringing out
the natural flavours of the vegetables.

The next dish to try was the Brandt US Beef
Striploin, grain-fed for more than 365 days. Producing one of the world’s most premium beefs,
Brandt continuously prides itself by selling only
the best-fed beef. Beyond doubt, the meat was
excellently cooked resulting in a delicate texture and well seasoned with the right amount
of salt and pepper that complements the natural flavours of the striploin. As I took my time
to appreciate the impeccable tender texture
and the mild sweetness of the juices, the dish
had a memorable taste that was etched in my
memory.
To end off the night after a hearty meal, two
delectable desserts were served – the Lejoy
Chocolate Lava Cake and Crème Brulee. Served
piping hot, the Lejoy Chocolate Lava Cake was
a joyous treat as I took a spoonful of comfortingly decadent chocolate made from premium
valrhona araguani, 72% dark chocolate, served
with a scoop of Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream
and fresh berries. The rich and warm liquid
chocolate that oozed out from the moist cake
was simply fantastic. It was certainly well executed with a balance of flavours and textures
that played cleverly in the mouth. The baked Vanilla Crème Brulee was a light and fresh dessert
that consisted of a silky smooth pudding. The
texture is akin to that of silken tofu, extremely
soft and delicate. On top, the sugarcoated layer
of crunchy caramel crust created the perfect
balance of sweetness.
Unquestionably, Porterhouse has kept its promise by creating a palatable menu with a combination of flamboyant flavours and culinary
treats that makes it so memorable to diners. The
intimate setting and reticent atmosphere will
definitely be a bonus towards a momentous
dining experience with family and friends.
