0"> acrosstheSTRAITS Savouring at its peak T HIRTY8, the signature restaurant – simply named after the floor it is on – was where I had my lunch. Located strategically on the 38th floor, THIRTY8 comprises of a 360-degree city view, restaurant, bar and lounge. The design and layout of this restaurant allows for effortless space, an open but comfortable ambience. It is the elegant curves, captivating views, the dramatic sense of space and the vibrant cuisine that makes THIRTY8 the signature restaurant of the hotel. It is not only the perfect place to feast your eyes on panoramic vistas of the city skyline, but also ravage through a selection of steaks, seafood, sushi and sashimi. At lunchtime, THIRTY8 offers a set lunch that comprises of the soup of the day, salad, a choice of main course and dessert. If the set lunch fails to coax your palate, the a la carte menu avails for ordering as well. Completely sold by the value of the set lunch, my husband and I both picked out what we wanted from that menu and had our order set. In a mood for something substantial to sate my ravaging appetite that day, I settled for the sirloin steak with roast potatoes. First came the soup of the day served in a deep bowl – cream of carrot. Although the portion was not large, it was a thick concentrated blend of sweetness from the carrots and cream. A light layer of froth on top made it a smooth and easy broth to drink. I made sure not to gulp down the soup in haste, but slowly savour each spoonful instead. What I was waiting for finally arrived. The cut of Black Angus beef sirloin was of a considerable size of 250g, enough to leave me satisfied. The tenderness and ease of slicing through the meat reflected how the beef was well executed. Although I had requested for my steak to be cooked well Weekendin 130 THIRTY8 Bar done, I was thrilled to find that the meat was not at all sinewy but divinely succulent instead. On the side, lightly salted rosemary roast potatoes were great along with the steak. Unlike the usual roast potato that tends to be dry and shriveled, this was moist with a delectable bite to the skin. The rich and buttery béarnaise sauce perfectly complemented both the potatoes and steak, making them more aromatic and appetising than the y already are. When it comes to dessert, you are given options to choose from again – a sundae, tart of the day or fresh seasonal fruits. Having had steak for mains, I reckoned it would be a sensible decision to go with cut fruits, and it was a wise choice. Presented on a platter was an assortment of ready-cut fruit like watermelon, honeydew, dragon fruit and papaya, all fresh and incredibly sweet. A ROOM WITH A YOU-GOTTA-SEE-THIS-VIEW.
