Presenting History
at its Finest
For a quick history lesson, embark
on a trail at the Kuala Lumpur City
Gallery. This marks an excellent
starting point to learn more about
the history of KL. Previously housing the main colonial printing office, the same soil now plays host
to this neo-Renaissance structure.
Entitled Memories of Kuala Lumpur,
the exhibit serves as an informative pictorial guide of the events
leading up to the city’s current day
success. Before retreating into the
comfort of your hotel, your abated
strength will instantly be regenerated from a visit to the Central Market. Dating back to the year 1888
when it was still a humble market
selling fish, poultry and vegetables,
the Central Market Kuala Lumpur
has ventured far from just selling
the daily house
hold necessities and evolved into
a prime location for shoppers from
all walks of life. Today, bright and
dazzling colours line the interiors,
a perfect match with the Art Deco
that embellishes the building’s façade. It is at this point where you
can find a range of shops modeled
after the antediluvian architecture, each of them selling crafts
representing an amalgamation
of Malaysian cultures. Be a part of
the newest addition to the family:
the Kasturi Walk. The stretch holds
up a series of arches featuring the
decorative Wau Bulan (Moon Kite
of Kelantan) and is a meeting point
for many performers who take to
the stage at 9pm daily. Like other
wandering tourists, delve into the
shops for a wide selection of handicrafts and Malaysian Art and Craft.
