H ave you ever smoked a fat blunt and thought “I bet a
run would feel great!”? Yeah, me neither. That is, until I
decided to try it for myself. Although marijuana is now
widely accepted for recreational use, there are still some
nay sayers out there who only focus on negativity asso-
ciated with marijuana and its
users. Since I’ve never had a
bad experience with marijuana,
except that one time I under-
estimated the edibles (haven’t
we all), I decided to do my own
research. Although I was well
aware of some of the health
benefits of partaking in bud,
like helping with sleep prob-
lems, nausea, anxiety & being a
natural pain reliever, I was a bit
surprised to read that it helps
with endurance. Now, I’ve nev-
er been considered an ‘athlete’
by any means, but I do a group
crossfit type workout three to four times a week. I decided
to light up about 45 minutes before class so I’d be feeling
it for sure. When I got to class, feeling nice, I did my nor-
mal routine of stretching and chatting and no one seemed
to notice. However, when time came to start the actual
workout I was completely lost. I couldn’t keep up with
how many reps I had done, I had to constantly check the
board for what was next, and I could feel my form getting
progressively worse as the time went on. Whoever said
there’s no such thing as a bad
workout never worked out
stoned. I was disappointed to
say the least. But, I decided to
do a little more research and
try again, except this time,
just a run. Running isn’t my
favorite and I was skeptical of
how smoking would affect my
endurance because, well, hon-
estly I don’t have much endur-
ance during sober runs. Alas,
I blazed up, laced my tennies
and off I went. Now, this was
an experience of it’s own. I
felt light on my feet, my lungs
didn’t feel like they were collapsing, and I wasn’t counting
down the laps to finish. It was the most invigorating run
I’ve ever had, I even thought “this must be WHY people
run!”. That runner high people talk about is real, I just had
to actually be high to experience it.
