SINGAPORE DAISY
Sphagneticola trilobata
DESCRIPTION
This is a vigorous perennial creeper with stems up to 2 metres long . The stems are pink with small hairs .
Leaves are bright green and rough with toothed edges . They are arranged in pairs opposite each other along the stem and have 3 lobes .
Flowers resemble bright yellow daisies which are 2 centimetres wide on short stalks above the leaves . It flowers during spring , summer and autumn .
Habitat it prefers sandy or well drained soils in coastal areas , such as sand dunes , and creek lines . It prefers moist environments but can adapt to drier climates .
Weed characteristics it is a vigorous plant that will outcompete the natural habitat . It spreads rapidly and smothers seedlings , ferns and shrubs .
Dispersal is mainly by cuttings from slashing and pruning .

Restricted . This species is Category 3 Restricted matter under Queensland Legislation .
HOW TO ACT
Effective control can be achieved using foliar spraying with a broad leaf herbicide , but no registered herbicides can be used on or near water . Hand pulling and digging out of runners for small infestations will require repeat removal when regrowth occurs . Preplanning of revegetation including mulching can assist in control . As it can reproduce vegetative from a small segment care should be taken to dispose of waste by burning or placing in black plastic bag and leaving in the sun for at least 48 hours .
