Pennisetum alopecuroides
DESCRIPTION
This is a clump forming perennial grass which grows to one metre tall and 60 centimetres wide . Leaves are mid to dark green and are rough textured .
Flowers are feathery , yellowy-green to purple . Flower heads grow to 14 centimetres long . It flowers in summer and autumn .
Habitat it grows in moist areas and along watercourses .
Weed characteristics it grows very vigorously . It can generate fuel loads , creating destructive wildfires and displaces desirable native and pasture grasses .
Dispersal is known to strongly self-seed .

This species is not listed under Queensland Legislation however it may be listed under local government law and control is highly recommended .

HOW TO ACT
This plant can be controlled by spot spraying with an appropriate herbicide . Painting the leaf blades with a wiper covered in chemical-soaked wick or carpet may be used to control early growth . For scattered plants or isolated infestations hand chip , bag and removal of stool from paddock and burn .
