amira kazemeini and joseph cimorelli met in new york city in 2011.
joseph was born and raised in new york and samira, based in toronto,
was visiting the city for the summer. samira was out for drinks with
her cousin, when a man approached them and struck up a conversation. The man
then introduced Samira to Joseph, claiming they were cousins. The stranger left
Samira and Joseph to chat, and Joseph admitted that he actually had no idea who
the man was! “Apparently he just went up to him and asked if he was interested in
meeting some girls that evening,” notes Samira. “He was our modern day cupid.”
Joseph moved to Toronto a few months after meeting Samira to be closer to her,
and he proposed in December of 2014. He spent weeks planning (and producing!)
a sentimental video proposal with the help of a videographer. The video featured
Joseph as the main star, looking back at all of the couple’s favourite spots in the city.
On the evening of the proposal, Samira could sense something special was on the
horizon. Joseph made plans for them to visit her favourite restaurant, jacobs &
co. steakhouse, for dinner. On the drive to the restaurant, Joseph stopped at a
location overlooking the city and showed Samira the video. Then he proposed and
filmed Samira’s “yes!” on his iPhone.
The couple were married on August 14th, 2015 at the four seasons hotel toronto.
The bride naturally looked to her cousin, Elle Daftarian who is the creative director
of petite & sweet, to plan the wedding. “She has been in the industry for many
years and I knew we were in good hands,” says Samira. The couple worked with
Elle to produce a traditional yet modern Persian wedding that truly felt like a party,
complete with memorable food and fantastic music.
