Caroline jokingly admits she wasn’t initially impressed by Joseph’s “loud demeanour and the number of ladies surrounding him,” but he was intent on pursuing her and his persistence paid off when she accepted his invitation to go on a date. Their first date lasted for twelve hours and from that moment forward they were inseparable. Over the course of their four year dating history, Caroline had always wanted to go on a picnic together, and it was always a hot topic of discussion every time the weather warmed up. Their picnic plans were always postponed, which eventually became a long-standing joke between the pair. When Joseph suggested they finally go on a picnic, Caroline was convinced the date would never transpire! However, after a ‘staycation’ weekend that included a spa day at the Miraj Hammam Spa in Toronto, their picnic date finally arrived. With the weather cooperating, Joseph took Caroline to a secluded area of High Park near the water and there, with a basket perfectly composed of Caroline’s favourite things, he asked her to marry him. When the time came to begin wedding planning, Caroline started the process on her own, but three months into it she realized the task was more than she could handle alone. She connected with Roxy Zapala of art of celebrations event planning and design firm and the two clicked immediately. Roxy provided full-service planning and design services. A friend of the couple designed a custom family crest that included a fish and snake, which represented the couple’s surnames and was integrated into all of the couple’s wedding stationery, created by Becky Kavanagh of paper & poste. www.wedl u xe.com 131
