N OT E F ROM E D I TO R THE welcome to the summer / fall 2016 issue of wedluxe, the vanguard issue. When considering the concept of the “Vanguard,” my team and I felt it was important to balance looking back at historical vanguards who have brought the worlds of design, art, fashion, and photography to where they are today, with looking forward to the new generation of leaders who are pushing the boundaries of innovation and are at the forefront of taking creative industries into the future. In today’s ever-evolving mobile and technology-savvy world, these innovators are more internationally-based than ever, making creative fields, including the luxury wedding industry, truly global. Right now, we are inspired by the new neutral colour palette that shows up everywhere from interior design blogs to the outfits of oft-photographed celebutantes (The New Neutral, pg 74), by the current translucent wedding dress trend (See Through Chic, pg 84), and by the idea of infusing Old World historical art, decor and tradition with contemporary high-fashion and technologically-infused design (The Visionist, pg 242). This spring, we flew to a privately held castle tucked away in the rolling h ills of the British Cotswolds to work with photography vanguard Miss Aniela and her visionary team to shoot our first global fashion feature. Our Canadian WedLuxe Glitterati Members absolutely blew us away with their styled shoots inspired by the Vanguard theme. Toronto’s top event designers, planners, florists, and photographers, along with other luxury wedding industry professionals, looked internationally for vanguard influence as varied as Dubai (nicknamed the City of Gold), design greats such as Karl Lagerfeld and Oscar de la Renta, and print and fabrication innovations such as toile de jouy and laser cut. All of the real weddings in this issue showcase couples who had distinct visions for the design of their big day. Whether they incorporated lucite boxes that encased their favourite designer shoes to showcase a shared passion, or dreamed of a tented reception featuring a replication of their favourite luxury hotel’s ceiling, the newlyweds in this issue all wanted something different and distinct, and hired local professionals with innovative ideas. For the very latest in what our local luxury wedding industry vanguards have in store for the future of wedding design, planning and more, brides and grooms-to-be won’t want to miss our sixth annual WedLuxe Show. This year’s show is taking place on Sunday, January 15th, 2017 at The Carlu and will be presented in conjunction with Oliver & Bonacini Events and Catering. Be sure to save this exciting date, as this event is not to be missed.
