M aria and peter’s families have known one another since the two were toddlers, but they had very brief interactions growing up. In 2006, the pair reconnected when they randomly crossed paths in Greece while vacationing and romance blossomed. Seven years later, Peter proposed while the couple were on holiday in St Barths. He chartered a private 65ft yacht to a remote beach where he surprised Maria with a dazzling 4.5kt diamond ring. After Maria said yes, Peter popped a bottle of their favorite champagne and the couple enjoyed a romantic catered lunch. The couple were married on September 20, 2014. Candice Chan and Alison Slight of candice&alison inc. were hired to design and produce the event as well as provide fullservice planning. Maria and Peter wanted their day to exude “modern elegance” and entrusted Candice and Alison to bring their dream celebration to life. Maria chose two different dresses for the occasion; a strapless, mermaid-style gown with a dramatic long train and a long-sleeved, lace gown with a daring back—both designed by Inbal Dror and purchased from white toronto. She wore Damiani rose gold and diamond jewellery purchased from maison birks. The couple’s platinum diamond wedding bands were purchased at harry winston in New York. The maid-of-honour was dressed in a black, floor-length evening gown designed by Roberto Cavalli. Todd Kjargaard of jackie o orchestrated the floral for the event and created Maria’s beautiful bouquet. The stems were wrapped with a dark green ribbon accented with a band of gold lace. Maria and Peter were married at st demetrios greek orthodox church in Hamilton, Ontario. The couple opted for elegant, white decor for the ceremony to contrast the rich colours and ornate architecture of the church. A long, plush white carpet lined the aisle. The church pews leading up the altar were decorated with leaf-lined glass cones filled with white bouquets and tied with a white satin ribbon. Tall floral displays of all-white blooms in giant glass vases beautifully framed the start of the aisle and ceremony area. www.wedl u xe.com 107
