� View venues for your ceremony & reception.
� Decide on a budget for your wedding.
Tip: Work out your budget on $ 1000- $ 1500 less than what you can spend. This will help keep you on track and not spend more than you can afford, even if you go over budget.
� Set a date for your big day, or at least a month for you to plan towards.
Tip: Keep in mind significant family dates such as anniversaries and birthdays so you don’ t conflict and can have‘ your day’. Also leave yourself enough time to send invitations and for your guests to organize flights and accommodation.
� Work out your guest list.
Tip: Your guest list will change slightly, but knowing your approximate numbers will help you work out your budget.
� Speak to your parents about who will be responsible for what costs. Tip: Being upfront from the start will reduce confusion and conflict further down the line.
12-11 months …
� Decide on a theme & colour scheme.
Tip: Keep in mind the season your getting married, and the flowers available at this time.
� Short list venues for the ceremony and reception.
Tip: Don’ t just base your decision on your budget, but also what is included, the level of services and the exclusivity of the venue on your big day. A venue’ s package may seem expensive to start with but when you work out the price of the extras you want sometime you’ re better off with the venue’ s pricing.
